It was great that STQI could represent Canada at the 12th Zhengzhou International Shaolin Wushu Festival at the opening ceremonies!

The crowd cheered as the Canadian flag emerged onto the stage, lead by Barron Chung and Rosemary Stehlik of the STQI schools in Markham and downtown Toronto respectively.

In fact, Canada had the loudest cheers thanks to our formidable group of 50 that travelled to the other side of the world to participate in this one-of-a-kind Shaolin festival.

The stage of the opening ceremonies is the infamous outdoor venue for the Zen Music Ritual show (more on that in another blog!). In the back are the Songshan Mountains and home of the Shaolin Temple.

Zhengzhou Shaolin Tournament opening ceremonies

There were over 60 countries represented at the opening ceremonies. When all the country representatives finished marching in, an explosion of multicoloured smoke went up followed by a helicopter dashing across the stage. It was an exhilarating start to the festivities indeed!
